We wanted to thank all of the parents and scouts who took their time over the past few weeks, capping off this past weekend, to participate in Scouting For Food, our annual 'Good Turn for America' (http://goodturnforamerica.org/).
All together, we estimate that Pack 309 collected, sorted, and delivered, 2.5 - 3 tons of food to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. This was more than last year, and everyone's help really paid off. Overall, it is estimated that the event collected 12 tons of food excluding ours. The Center for Food Action serves 10,000 families annually in Bergen county, and provides assistance ranging from providing food, to helping families pay for rent and utilities.
You should have seen the faces on the guys working at the center when we brought and unloaded the truck. This food is so needed and will help many, many people. The center was truly grateful for what everyone did, they really could not believe their eyes.
Please pass this along to any of your kids that helped, and let them know their efforts to put out bags, to collect food, and to help sort and box it will really make a difference to families, and they should be very proud of themselves - they did great!
Next year, we plan more coordination with the other cub scout units in town to see if we can collect even more food.
And, thanks also to the boy scouts of Troop 89 who provided leaders and scouts, and also to Dave Mudrick of Topcon, who provided the truck and driver as he does every year, we literally could not have done it without them.
So, mission accomplished and job well done, you've helped make a difference for the people of our community. Thank you!.
